Local Government & Property Records

Why Local Knowledge Matters in Real Estate

At Macon County Title, we’re more than just located in Decatur—we’re deeply connected to the local government offices that hold the records vital to your real estate transaction. Our office is just steps from the Macon County Building, and we visit it daily to access property records in person.

While some out-of-town or online title companies rely solely on digital databases—which are often incomplete or outdated—we go directly to the source. That means more accurate searches, faster resolutions, and fewer surprises at closing.

Key County Offices We Work With…

Macon County Supervisor of Assessments

This office determines the value of your property for tax purposes. It also manages tax exemptions, including homestead, senior, and veteran benefits.

Macon County Treasurer

This office is responsible for collecting property taxes based on assessments. Taxes in Macon County are paid a year in arrears – for example, the 2026 tax bill is due in 2027. Payments can be made in a lump sum or in two installments (typically June and Sept).

Macon County Recorder

This office records and maintains legal documents related to real estate, such as deeds, mortgages, liens, easements, plats, and judgments. These documents are critical for clear and accurate title work.

Work With a Local Title Team That Knows the System

When it comes to protecting your property, nothing beats local experience and relationships. Our daily presence at these offices ensures that we get the most complete, up-to-date information possible—giving you peace of mind at closing.
